We use “Price Momentum” – a measure of the flow of money into and out of these stocks and how that flow compares to the past.
Research shows a stock that has been increasing in price over the last six to twelve months is likely to continue to increase in price over the next six to twelve months. Similarly, a stock where the price has been decreasing over the past six to twelve months is likely to continue to decrease over the next six to twelve months.
We calculate the price momentum and then rank order the S&P 100 stocks from the highest price momentum to the lowest. We chose the S&P 100 because these are the largest and finest companies in America (and probably the world). The financial standards and regulations they face are the toughest protections for retail investors anywhere. They are well managed and well-capitalized. They are leaders in each of their respective industries. They are name brands – you know every one of them.
Then we segment the listing into three zones – the Buy Zone, the Don’t Buy More Zone and the Avoid Zone. The boundary between the Don’t Buy More Zone and the Avoid Zone is the Sell Threshold.
First time users buy the stocks in the Buy Zone. Over time, the stocks jostle with their competitors in the Index and prices move up and down, as do the stocks’ price momentum. Eventually, the stock falls into the Avoid Zone. At that point, we signal to any of our subscribers who own that stock, that it is time to sell that stock.
They sell it, remove its tracking reference from the app and then purchase the next highest ranked stock in the Buy Zone that they don’t already own.
